Resumo: This article focuses on the relationship between tourism and ethics, discussing the idea that these issues cannot be reduced to the controversy about ecotourism and be concentrated in the contradiction between mass tourism and ecotourism. In its framework, the paper exposes the philosophical sources adopted by supporters of the ecotourism thesis and those ethical’s perspectives, but also introduces the new paradigm of environmental philosophy. Then it analyzes the relevance of the “motivation” and “taste” categories in the development of the tourism market and the contributions of the United Nations’ environmental conferences to the tourism reform, announced by the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism. The article makes a more rigorous characterization of philosophical concepts applied to tourism. By establishing the relevance of the relationship between the development of tourism and Environmental Philosophy, this paper tries to enunciate some of the fundamental concepts of its epistemology and hermeneutics. It concludes that the tourist activity has evolved qualitatively, leading to the coexistence of different paradigms, with the growing of cultural tourism and nature tourism (ecotourism).
