Resumo: Arguably, there are various aspects that contribute to the promotion of a more inclusive society, considering tourism’s value as a basic necessity.  This constitutes an essential aspect to the quality of life and should therefore be available to people, regardless of their physical, economic or social conditions. This article seeks to contextualize these themes from a conceptual point of view, to analyze the main issues about accessibility and reflect on social and ethical issues supporting the promotion of the accessible tourist goods and services. Eventually, it is also intended to discuss the advantages of developing accessible tourist destinations by analyzing the key economic aspects and reflecting on the need for a systemic vision for the integrated development of accessible tourist destinations.Accessibility in a tourist destination can be achieved through a systemic approach, which takes into account the territory’s sectoral and transversal dimensions. The 'culture' of accessibility and awareness of the agents is fundamental to the development of inclusive tourism products, that requires time to implement changes, through the consensus and involvement of all stakeholders.
