Resumo: Rigorous and generalizable research, especially when jointly developed with tourism companies and organisations, represents a strategic vector to endow more strength, liaison and sense of social responsibility, both to the tourism sector and to knowledge producers.This article revisits some of the critical features of the scientific research in the tourism field, and the lack of suitable coordination and the distance between ‘knowledge producers’ and ‘knowledge consumers’ are discussed. Based on the 10-year publication experience of the Journal of Tourism and Development (Revist Turismo & Desenvolvimento – RT&D), several indicators are presented to evidence this journal contribution to the academia and to the tourism trade.
