Resumo: Tourism and sport are two factors that intertwine and support each other. Sport can be a deciding factor in scheduling a trip thus, contributing to the flow and mobilization of visitors, and consequently, to enjoy the existing infrastructure and tourist services.People traveling to actively participate or attend sporting events, as visitors, take notice of the culture, traditions and the region’s gastronomy. Sport provides visibility and contributes to the promotion of the destination’s image. In this regard, we can affirm that sports tourism can be an important means in promoting a region, enhancing its development and sustaining the local economy.This article intends to reflect on the importance of sport - rugby for the promotion of Lousã as a tourist destination. We are aware that this revelation has a positive impact on the number of overnight stays in the region.
