Resumo: From the end of the last century and the beginning of the twenty-first century, the number of cultural institutions has increased considerably. In countries such as Japan, the UK and also Brazil new museums have arisen at an unprecedented pace. This text seeks to expand on the knowledge of the growing number of cultural facilities, new formats of museums and the prospects for innovation in museum spaces through the perspective of visitors. Surveys conducted at the Inhotim Institute in Brazil have revealed that the existence of museums and similar institutions in new formats is consistent with the expectations of a contemporary society in which people seek new experiences, value sensations and favour present time.
