Resumo: This paper analyses the natural resources as well as the availability of infraestructure for the tourism economy in the state of Oaxaca, México. In the first part of the paper, the evaluation of Oaxaca’s natural resources is presented, followed by the description of the methodology used to estimate the offer of goods and services demanded by tourists. Then, we appraise the relationship between the natural endowment of Oaxaca and the local infrastructure available for the tourism economy and how this shapes several different tourist spaces within the state territory. In the last section of the study, we explain why natural resources in Oaxaca are not being exploited correctly and we link this situation to the lack of adequate infraestructure.
