Resumo: This paper shows how the banks are trying to keep their levels of returns of earnings increasing their investments in non-financial companies. We examine the strategy of five banks during the period 1990-2000: BBVA, SCH, Banco Popular, CajaMadrid and La Caixa. They concentrate their securities in: energy, telecommunication and real state sector. Tourism is a very important sector in the economy of Spain (represents approximately 12% of GBP). Why do they not invest so much in tourism? We try to find an explanation in this paper. We conclude the analysis introducing the fact that central banks must control: the risk.
