Resumo:      This paper deals with the issue of the territorial dynamics established by tourism in the isle of Cozumel, at the end of the Twentieth Century. In an introductory part, we examine the basics of the Mexican tourism economy, followed by the description of the island’s geographical features. Further on, the main regional links of Cozumel are portrayed: these were estimated primarily on the consideration of the origin of holiday travelers as well as of commercial flows to the isle, the latter seen in a context of virtual absence of local agricultural and industrial production. Tourism in this Mexican isle will increase its already strong links with overseas visitors and trade, as the decline of Cancun as a major destination in the Caribbean, becomes apparent in the next decade.
