Resumo: This article is an example of the long and strong effort made by the «Montaña Palentina» region to become a tourist area. Over four decades, a series of policies to stimulate tourism in this region have been implemented, which have contributed to the consolidation of this area with great potential due to its natural, historical and artistic heritage. However, it wasn´t until the 1990´s that tourism, specially Rural Tourism, became an authentic instrument of local development in the region. In the context of the philosophy of European Policies related to rural areas, today the «Montaña Palentina» has consolidated itself as an important tourist area regionaly and nationaly.
