Resumo: This paper will examine which are the environmental preferences and perceptions of tourists who visit the Costa Brava, and their effect on tourists’ decisions. The data were obtained from a survey carried out in summer 1999.
We apply the conjoint analysis method in order to determine the importance of the following attributes: low price, clean beaches and quiet environment. Multiple correspondenceanalysis is next used to relate the willingness to pay for environmental quality, perceived environmental quality, environmental-related activities done during the holiday and stated motives of satisfaction. We also build a segmentation of the tourist market based on the results.
The findings suggest that the importance of environmental quality differs for different groups of tourist and that it is related to the kind of destination selected.
