Resumo: The forms of tourism that focus on rural locations and resources have proved their worth in the promotion of sustainable development. The major problem for the future of this sector is the almost complete lack of legislation to ensure the protection of the natural environment, the safety of people practising this kind of sports, the consolidation of the basis for business structures.
Considering the situation described above, authorities should design a global policy for the rural areas in which tourist development is closely linked to territory administration. Authorities should also assume a leading role in these developments.
