Resumo: This paper deals with the issue of tourism in the Loreto-Nopoló-Puerto Escondido corridor, in the state of Baja California Sur, México. Since the early 1970's, this place was chosen by the Mexican Tourism Authority as one of the of the five suitable coastal resorts (IPC or Integrally Planned Centres) to be financed in order to promote tourism in the country. A brief historical account of Loreto as a tourist centre is presented in the paper, followed by some comments about its designation as IPC and resent weak dynamic as tourist corridor.
