Resumo: We present the results of a survey applied to cruisers that disembarked in Bahías de Huatulco during the 2005-2006 season to gain an acquaintance with their profile and to analyze their expenditure behavior. Cruiser’s description includes aspects such as: socioeconomic information, satisfaction perceptions, in-port expenditures, and a sensitivity analysis, hmong others. The average expenditure of cruisers was slightly greater than that for the country during 2005. The cruise lines’ revenue from tour-selling equaled to two fifths of the revenue collected by Huatulco on the same concept. The application of the new cruise-tourism tax will probably reduce Huatulco’s disembarking rate in one fourth, which would represent a net loss for the community. Opposed to conventional wisdom, on-board expenditure behavior was found to be positively related to in-port expenditure behavior. Finally, we conclude that the higher the level of satisfaction, the bigger the impact of on-board expenditure on in-port expenditure.
