Resumo: This paper examines the status of mining tailings washing and swamps in the mining Sierra of Cartagena-La Union, as potential areas of risk to the health of populations in the Sierra mining and adjacent areas and the tourist population.Are warning about the relationship between high concentrations of certain heavy metals and the incidence of some cancers, as demonstrated by various studies and shown high rates of lung and pleura in the municipalities of Cartagena and La Union, in relation to those found in the rest of the region.
