Resumo: The article shows how religious tourism is an expression of the commercialization of culture and religion. Based on this hypothesis, the Monastery of Montserrat, the Way of St. James and Holy Week in Granada are examples of synergies between religious heritage and tourism. The paper is divided into four sections. In the first, defines the terms and condition of the issue. The second examines the limited data on religious tourism and finally discusses the case studies, conclusions and future directions for this old-new tourism.
