Resumo: After the 1973 crisis, many European mining areas saw their mines gradually being clo- sed down. The recovery of industrial and mining heritage in the form of physical, tangible elements such as buildings, and of intangible elements such as the mining culture became, at that point, the driving force behind the new development strategies with regards to cultural tourism. The Spanish Mining Parks, namely Riotinto in Huelva, Almaden in Ciudad Real, Andorra-Sierra de Arcos MWINAS in Teruel and La Union in Huelva, are clear examples of the revamping process undergone by the mining areas with a view to tourism as well as strong evidence that, here as well, mining tourism is becoming increasingly relevant.
