Resumo: This essay analyzes a case study of community tourism in Ecuador and the scope of this venture as a sustainable alternative for the community. From the case, the socioeconomic and ecological inequality that arises within the Andean indigenous and peasant communities due to the capitalist economic system is discussed from the political ecology, and, as the struggles and demands of these groups have allowed to deploy local economic alternatives. At the center of the debate is the concept of sustainable development and for this the proposal issued in the Brundtland Report is reviewed. At the same time, it is discussed whether tourist activity is another of the contemporary ways to continue capitalizing on nature.
