Resumo: The tourist activity has the ability to influence the quality of life perceived by the host population in the tourist sites, either indirectly by encouraging economic growth and also directly by generating investment in infrastructure and equipment in order to meet to the tourist demand but that also result in the benefit of the local population. However, the dimension of the influence, the factors that constitute it and those that affect it are aspects that have not been revealed in detail, therefore, in this work the objective was to analyze the differences in the perceived quality of life by the host population can be attributed to the degree of development and relevance of the tourist activity in the locality.Three locations were selected in Mexico with different characteristics regarding tourism activity, for a comparative empirical study, with pre-experimental design, in which indicators of perceived quality of life were obtained through a survey, between June and September 2018. The results of the comparison are presented and it is argued as a main conclusion that tourism has a positive impact on the perception of quality of life when the presence of tourism activity is economically relevant whether it is developed or in the process of being introduced.
