Resumo: This work provides a comparative diagnosis by areas of the degree of consolidation of community ecotourism projects in the State of Quintana Roo. The expansionary trend of tourism in Quintana Roo towards the interior of the state necessitates the proactive attitude of the communities to be inserted in tourism projects in favorable conditions for the activity, and not to be marginal spectators of development. Therefore, the analysis of ecotourism practices in Quintana Roo presented here, was carried out from the perspective of community tourism generated by ecotourism companies. The research carried out is of a mixed and comparative approach, based on the information obtained from the survey applied to 49 different case studies. For this reason, the impulse of ecotourism was analyzed as an alternative for local development for the state of Quintana Roo, with factors linked to services, parallel activities, basic infrastructure, special equipment and activities, such as competitive tourism products. The main findings revealed that the best results were always developed in all aspects in the central Maya area of Quintana Roo, in each of the 23 projects that carry out ecotourism activities. They stood out in order of importance, to see the degree of potential of each of them in terms of service provision, parallel activities, distribution of basic infrastructure, specialized equipment in adventure tourism, ecotourism, rural tourism, and especially in activities to develop highlighting ecotourism as a main activity, followed by rural tourism and third parameter adventure tourism, emphasizing the value they give to the community for the development of projects. With regard to the northern and southern areas, they converge in giving ecotourism their main tool for developing community projects, followed by adventure tourism and far from rural tourism development.
