Resumo: Rural tourism and environmental governance are concepts that seems to be complementary, however they are actually influenced in the first instance, by the development of a population who is seeking for the reduction of poverty levels in remote areas, located apart from the central national government; and secondly, by taking care of the environment and the non-extraction of natural resources which belongs to specific communities and nations. The aim of this article is to point out and describe what the participation of some nations has been on issues of rural tourism and environmental governance. Due to, Latin America is searching for a way to leave behind the poverty path with income alternatives for its population, and on the other hand developed countries, such as European, push for the conservation of the natural and forget the economics needs of the south American countries. The methodology used throughout the present article is based on presenting research results by using an analytical perspective, making reference to academic sources, and throwing particular outcomes. It is important to note that the examples included in this article are unique and do not reflect the problems of an entire country or region (e.g. Europe or Latin America) more over they allow to visualize certain features and peculiarities, in addition it verifies the central thesis in the sense that there is a strong strain of concepts, showing that rural tourism promotes a development that may not be allowed by the environmental governance.
