Resumo: This article identifies and analyzes the rules on land use in Chile, concluding that they lack coherence, harmony and fullness needed to becalled “territorial planning system”, generating a negative impact on tourism development. In this context, the new Tourism Lay established the figure of Tourist Interest Zones (ZOIT), associated with weak mechanisms through which the objective of territorial planning would materialize. Notwithstandingtheir advantages, such as prioritizing theseterritories to attract public investment, thearticle criticizes the primacy of other interestthan tourism and not to solve the endemic problems of inconsistency and lack of coordination of the Chilean territorial planning.
