Resumo: The present work explores the literatura produced in the field of tourism research that incorporates theoretical perspectives used to approach social movements. This task permits to expose the development possibilities of the area in question and to present novel analytical tools. Based on an exhaustive bibliographic review, existing publications are analyzed taking into account: objectives, case studies, units of analysis, results, and especially, theoretical and methodological frameworks adopted. It is noted that, despite the diversity of approaches, it is still an incipient area of study whose development requires the examination of new cases based on a vision that considers the specificities of each problem and the opportunities that different perspectives offer.
