Resumo: Among all the cultural characteristics that contributed to shaping the tourist appeal of the current city of Lujan in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, it is religion which stands out, a factor which has been a key element when designing any local development strategies to be implemented. The importance of the Lujan Virgin, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of the River Lujan, and her history, combines with the scientifically founded story about the settlement and society, the people of Lujan, in an amalgam permanently refreshed by the unique phenomenon, by the diversity of its expressions, and by the pilgrimages to the Virgin and the National Basilica of Our Lady of Lujan.
