Resumo: The article deals with the importance of sustainable development and rural tourism in Lithuania. The issues concerning the establishing and maintaining of a homestead in a rural environment are reviewed. Communication skills, business planning and language skills are of utmost importance in the flourishing of rural tourism in Lithuania. The future world of business has to change if we are to overcome the crises in society and in the personality. The social responsibility of educational institutions is high on the agenda. Business companies have to be socially responsible and eco-friendly particularly what concerns rural tourism.
