Resumo: The article examines the functionalities and implications of Integrated Destination Management Systems in the tourism sector today, and proposes a systemic conceptualisation of the tool based on its use in relation to the Smart Destinations Network in Valencia. The results of the study show the importance of management tools of this kind in ensuring successful governance of the tourism sector, while highlighting a series of obstacles which make full implementation of such systems impractical for now. The article concludes with four general recommendations and the main lines of action of each for the promotion and development of management tools of this kind.
