Resumo: One of the primary sources of economic development in the less inhabited regions of Spain is the promotion of natural, cultural and historic tourism. The eastern region of León [province] has experienced, and continues to experience, rapid population decline, and the accompanying economic recession has been devastating. On the other hand, it is a territory rich in resources: natural, cultural, historic, etc., as well as having a modern network of roads and highways. This itinerary focuses on the cultural and patrimonial heritage of this region, in particular, the important National Heritage collection of Plateresque altarpieces from the early Renaissance period (16th century) that remains to this day in small towns throughout the area. In addition to featuring the value of these works of art, the itinerary includes complementary activities that highlight other local resources, making it a complete and diverse route.
Keywords: Altarpiece, Renaissance, León, route, endogenous, depopulation, resources and heritage.
