Resumo: The year 2014 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the theorisation of the 'lieux de mémoire' by the French historian Pierre Nora. Throughout this time, a model of heritage enhancement for places of memory, linked above all to the world wars and the Holocaust, has been consolidated in Europe. At the beginning of the new century, France has developed a theoretical model that relates this memorial heritage to tourist practice. This is no coincidence, since it has emerged from the practical experience of many years, which reaffirms its model of 'tourisme de mémoire' as the world reference. Spain, due to a sociopolitical delay of decades with respect to its western counterparts, has only begun in recent years to claim its spaces of memory, related to the historical memory of the Civil War and the Dictatorship. The Catalan case, a pioneer in terms of implementing a tourism strategy, has laid the foundations of an emerging model.
