Prof. Dr. Klaus Schmid is professor of software engineering at the University of Hildesheim where he leads the Software Systems Engineering group. He is active in the area of Product Line Engineering since the mid-nineties. Over time he was involved in numerous public and industrial research and development projects. Currently his main research focus is on combining product line engineering with service platforms and on other state of the art aspects in product line engineering. He authored more than 90 refereed publications, most of them in the area of product line engineering and in neighboring fields. He also co-authored a book on product line engineering published by Springer. He is General Chair of the International Software Product Line Conference (SPLC) 2011 and Program Chair of the International Conference on Software Reuse (ICSR) 2011. Before he joined the University of Hildesheim as a professor, he was department head at the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering. He received a diploma degree and a Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Kaiserslautern.
